Over 20,000 lawyers from all parts of the country are set for Enugu, the choice location for the 2025 Annual General Conference (AGC) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), slated to begin today officially.
The Annual Conference, themed ” Stand Out, Stand Tall,” will be held in Enugu from August 22-29 at the International Conference Centre in the heartland of the coal city.
Notable attendees include Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and South African Politician cum activist Julius Malema. The programme line-up includes plenary sections, networking, and professional development sessions amid other programs lined up for the conference.
Earlier on Saturday, Mazi Afam Osigwe, NBA president, led thousands of lawyers on a health walk across major cities in the state. The health walk serves as a prelude to the main conference while also creating awareness about the event in the state.
” Enugu is the capital of the South East region and also the home of hospitality, beauty, and peace. That was why we chose Enugu State to host our conference after moving from Port Harcourt”. Osigwe Said, explaining the choice of Enugu for the 2025 NBA Conference
“So, we are here in Enugu to enjoy the best that the people have to offer and also have a conversation about building Nigeria and making it an economic giant in Africa. Enugu is set, we are so excited.” He added.
Prof Chidiebere Onyia, Secretary to the State Government, assured the lawyers of a memorable experience, noting that the Peter Mbah-led administration has long optimised the state for events like this.
“The Enugu State Government under Dr. Peter Mbah, in its design and thinking around tourism, hospitality, and economic growth, had already factored in most of what you are seeing in preparation right now. Onyia Said
“Even without the NBA’s plan to come, we had already started planning what would happen if the NBA came here, if the Nigerian Society of Engineers came here, or others.” He added.
The arriving lawyers were conveyed in the newly acquired CNG buses to their destinations as human traffic surged in the state following the beginning of the conference.
The NBA annual conference was last held in Enugu in 2005, some 20 years ago, making the return to the state memorable and well overdue.
